Book Club Projects
Book Clubs! We had book clubs a couple weeks ago we all read books that the teacher assigned us. Some people Read 1 book or 2 books. And we made posters which were video taped and you can watch them on the blog and we read them just in a couple and we all had kinds of ideas for the posters like one group made a message in a bottle and another group made a toilet theme because there book was about a boy in the girls bathroom. And at the beginning of reading we would meet with are groups and we could only read to a certain part that the group decided on. some people got to 2 books some only got to 1 and some

Celebrate good times- COME ON!
Today we all brought our electronics so we could scan a code on our memoirs so we could watch other people read there memoirs. It was a lot better to hear someone else read there memoir with expression than us just reading it in our head. We could also write comments on others memoirs.

Celery Cells
Hi my name is Jaedha and I'm going to talk about the day that we did a celery project! We enjoyed learning more about celery aperently celery has veins and so the class and I put dye in water and left it there for a couple of days and later after it turned a little bit blue we opened it up and looked at the veins it was so cool. The veins were blue so we could see them 😀. That project was amazing I think I'm going to try it at home too! -Jaedha 😝

A "hot" experiment
A "hot" experiment
Today we did an experiment using hot wheel cars and two taped meter sticks, it was pretty fun just playing with cars during science!
The first day we talked about friction, which is the force that makes things stop when they go on a different surface which makes the two rub together and slow down. We also talked about Gravity, the force that holds us down on the earth. Then we taped the meter sticks and made a hypothesis about if the number of books would effect how far the car rolls.
The second day we did the experiment by stacking books to put the meter stick on and rolling the car down the sticks.
And after we did all that we calculated the averages and made a bar graph showing our averages. So we had an awesome time doing and learning about force and motion in this fun way.

Vertabrate prezi projects
In science we were learning about the five vertebrates. The teacher thought instead of doing a boring presentation on paper, we would make a technical presentation with www.Prezi.com. In these projects we were split into five groups. Each group was chosen a vertebrate to present with their prezi. The five vertebrates we studied were amphibians, reptiles, birds, fish, and mammals. The requirments were to have where is there habitat, are they born alive or hatched.life cycle,if they breath in their lungs or gills, and the body covering.
In this projects we learned about vertebrates in a very fun way.In this project we learned to use habit six:synergize. The teacher thought that it would be best if we would do a fun project while using the 7 habits with others. So basically we got schooled by our 5th grade teacher Mrs.Sims.So we got schooled by our teacher, IN SCHOOL!!!
In conclusion, all of us learned about how to work together and still have a learning expirence. This shows to every student that thinks school stinks is wrong. Ask Mrs.Sims class if school is fun. They will all say it is with Mrs.sims.

SS rotations
At the newspapers and Primary sources station,we looked at newspaper articles to get information on different tribes of Native Americans. These newspapers are very old. This station was at table 3.
At the textbook student website station, the group that was there used only one computer to write down facts. There are five tribes to write down facts on. The computer was at the carpet.
At this staion, there are articles that were on paper to read for facts. All the articles were different. This was at table 5.

Recognizing Leaders who showed the 7 Habits
Lilli made a really proactive choice this week. She put First a Things First by choosing to do her planner rather than go and see her favorite Teacher in the morning. she decided to do the right thing and put first things first. She learned that doing the right thing will always be the best choice in life.
Dawson took responsibility and was honest and went to the teacher when he didn't get his planner signed. He told her that he didn't and he decided that he should pull a strip for it (a strip is a thing where if you do something that was not the best choice you put one in your number pocket) so he did. The teacher didn't even tell him to. He decided to do the right thing and he knew what it was. so he pulled a responsibility strip and he knew that doing the right thing always pays off. Dawson knows what the right thing to do is and he is proactive.

Why writers write class video
Today we made a class video it was about why writers write. And we did a little example called P I E
(Stands for Persuade, Inform, Entertain) We enjoyed being creative.
We made the video as a class and then our class videographer, Dominic, uploaded it and put it on YouTube for us to share to you. It is unlisted, so it can only be seen by people with a link.

Today's Lesson on Choices and Actions
Today we spent a great deal of time talking about how we want to be remembered, and how we want others to think of us.
As the school year goes on we have all gotten more comfortable. And by fifth grade most of these kids have been together a long time. As the year has gone on I have started to see more and more cattiness and little spats arising. I wanted to spend some time helping the students to take a look at their actions and the way those actions change the way others see us.
When the students arrived to school this morning they were all given random name tags. The name tags showed words that most people would NOT like used to describe them. (Words like cheater, drama, bad sport, self centered, bragger, know it all... Etc.) I asked the students to wear them throughout the day, and to record how it felt to wear those words.
I did my best to make sure students were all aware that these were not names we were calling them, or accusing them of being, but just a part of an experiment.
The students said that wearing the negative words made them feel things like: ashamed, embarrased, sad, angry, upset, shy, and "like people thought I was a bad person".
We then talked about how we "wear words" that describe us everyday, even though we cannot see them, our choices and our actions show our words to other people.
I asked each of the students to really think about the way others may think of them. I asked them if there were any words that they felt may describe them, that they were not happy with. We wrote those words on hearts. (Mine is shown below.)
After that we sat down and thought about what choices and actions we have done to make those words show on us. The students really thought hard about what things they have done and what choices they have made that they felt painted them in a negative way.
I could see a lot of "light bulbs" going off as the students began to realize what their actions are showing others.
After this, we destroyed those negative hearts and began to write the words that we WOULD like to represent us instead. Each of us made a list of actions and choices we can start doing to help us become the type of people we want to be.
This set the stage for us to begin writing new goals for ourselves. With our new goals we can Proactively work to become better people and make better choices.
In the end, we switched out each negative word on the board for a postive one and said what we could do to show those positive words.
At first the students stood up one by one and pointed out a single word that meant something to them. They said what they were going to do so that they do not end up being described with that word, then went to the board and replaced that word with a positive one.
One by one all of the students all came together and took turns sharing and changing the words on the board that hit home to them and they wanted to change.
In the end, the students took off their negative words and made their own name tags with more personal positive words that they would like to represent them.
HELPFUL
BRAVE
INTELLEGENT
HONEST
SMART
GOOD PLAYER
GRATEFUL
After spending the second half of the day wearing postivie words we found that people treated us better when we wore them. We discovered that whether we are wearing our words or not, we carry them with us. If we are good people and make good choices people will treat us nicely and with respect. We also found, if put bad things into the world, that we get them back.
I am very proud of the goals the kids set for themselves today and how open they were to really thinking about themselves and making plans to become even better!
I certainly do love these children. Thank you so much for trusting me with your most prized possessions.
