Opportunity Cost Sundaes

For this activity, we each got $5.00 worth of classroom money. Each of the stuff you could put on our sundae cost "money." First we had to plan what you wanted on it and write it on a chart. Next, you would get in line and wait. Then, when it was your turn you would tell Mrs. Sims what you wanted on it. Finally after that, you'd sit down and enjoy your master piece sundae. Mine was so good and I could barely eat during lunch! -Aneysha

Market Day

Classroom market

we had a classroom market today. Its like when you bake,or color, or even make a type of craft.
Some of the selling things were.........

                    Paper Airplanes
                    Cupcakes
                    Stress Balls
                    Cookies and
                    Book Marks

We were praticeing for school of economics for the profit of the money and how
we handle it and keep control of our money. The one how had the most money in our class was olivia. Shes the one who had the stress balls, and i guess everyone wanted one.But this is supost to teach you how sell your products and what price to put on them. So this is how it worked half of the class went out and opened there stand. And got ready to sell. While the other half
got 5 dollars from Mrs.Sims to go spend.

After the time was up we switched and the other half of the class got to go sell and spend. but the key to this whole thing is not to spend at once because you have not got to other stores yet and you might wont something but then again you dont have money. The highest amount of money spent was 30 dollars by olivia. And this was called Classroom Market.

Making is Bread

http://hostthetoast.com/rosemary-olive-oil-crock-pot-bread/

We made Rosemary Crock pot bread it was pretty good but some people were saying it was kinda dry on the inside and needed so butter. But it was also learning in the process of making it. We had three           charts/ paper that said Natural Resources Human Resources and don't forget about Capital Resources!

Natural Resources-Resources from nature that get used up to become the product.
Human Resources-Workers.
Capital Resources-Money,buildings,and tools one needs to run a business.

This is how it worked let me explain. When we added an ingredient we wrote up on the paper in which one it went into, then we would add another ingredient and another and another.

Chat wall

For this activity, there were three lines of people and four questions on that big piece of paper. The questions were, what caused the French and Indian War, why were taxes such a "hot topic," what was the outcome of the French and Indian War, and what events lead up to the revolution. The whole thing was like a really big chat room. You could answer or respond.I think it was pretty cool. All of the questions had to do with what we were learning in social studies. I really liked that we could respond to any answer. It pretty much helps with our learning. This activity was fun for me.-Aneysha :)

Colonies

Before Christmas break we worked on three important colonies. These three colonies were the middle colonies, the England colonies, and the southern colonies. Each student got to decide which colonies they wanted to do. The first day of our projects the southern colonies watched a video on their place of living and how it was ran. The other colonies took notes on their colonies until they got to watch their video. Our goal was to make a brochure on our colony for the settelers to see.(the settelers are not real it is just a fun project.) We had two weeks to finish our brochures. We all got to pick a partner to work with that was in our same colony. We finished our reports on time and had a lot if fun making it with our friends.

A Reminder
__________
If you have been in war or gruesome battles I recommend not reading this.

I’m writing to tell you about Veterans Day. You should read this it could tell you a lot.

This is about Veterans Day. A veteran  is a person who served in the military or still does. On veterans day we thank the people who served our country to save ours and other lives.

What we did in Mrs. Terry and one of the students dads came in to teach us a lesson about veterans day. He showed us pictures his jobs and the military dogs he had.

Well if you want to know more look it up or ask a parent or friend.

The history of famous explorers

During social studies we are working on research on different people like : john Cabot, vasco Nunez de balboa,Ferdinand Magellan, and Fransico Vazquez Coronado. We have find the country they represents, Summary, drawing, travel route, and a "Did you know". You have a partner, and a computer to get your information. I'm writing this to tell you about what we were doing in social studies last week. This is about how hard we were working in social studies with a partner. The project was about famous travelers from long ago. In our projects we had to search up our travelers home town flag. For example: Spain. In the lesson we learned how to correctly research people from the past. Everyone learned about people they have never heard of before. My partner didn't even know who Fransico Vasquez Coronado was until we researched him for a week. Now everyone in the class learned something new. In conclusion, people should get researching on people from the past to see what they can learn.

SS rotations

At the newspapers and Primary sources station,we looked at newspaper articles to get information on different tribes of Native Americans. These newspapers are very old. This station was at table 3.

At the mini laptops station, we had to search the the internet for facts. Each one of us looked at different sites. This was at the desk.

At the library books, we could read different books about Native Americans. This was at the Library.

At the textbook student website station, the group that was there used only one computer to write down facts. There are five tribes to write down facts on. The computer was at the carpet.
At this staion, there are articles that were on paper to read for facts. All the articles were different. This was at table 5.

Ice Cream

Today our class made homemade ice cream. The way that we made ice cream was we used Mrs. Sims ice cream maker. We mixed all of the ingredients together and rolled the ice cream maker sround on the floor four at a time. The reason that we made ice cream was to learn about supply and demand. While groups made ice cream, others were reading and were on the mini-laptops. On the computers we used ben ans jerry's ice cream website to learn about supply and demand. It was alot of fun, and the ice cream was super yummy!!

Bread Baking

Today our class made bread. We sorted out the different supplies by natural resources (resources that come form nature.)  , human resources (a good or service provided by a human) , and capital resources.(a man made product that costs money) we made bread because when our class goes to the school of economics, we will be in a simulation. Our grade level will pretend to be immigrants coming from Ellis Island. Later that day, we read a book on immigrants that came from foreign country's. While baking the bread every time a resource was used we added that resource to our posters. Our class had so much fun baking the bread and we hope that we can do it again.

Here is the recipe we used and the link to the blog:

Explorer Projects

Lately, we've been writing explorer projects. Groups were assigned an explorer. The whole class raced to see who would get to the new world first.

Writing

In writing we've been doing non-fiction articles. We have learned how to take notes, section off our writing, and cut and paste our articles. The topic is Westward Expansion. People are writing about the Gold Rush, the Louisiana Purchase, the Oregon Trail, Lewis and Clark, Sacajawea, and the Corps of Discovery.

Social Studies Investigations

We started our Social Studies Unit on Native Americans this week. To kick off the unit, students worked in groups to explore different resources and preview to predict what we will be learning about. The students really enjoyed going from station to station and exploring the many places we can get information. Check out their learning below:
