Today in science we learned about the water cycle. We learned what the water cycle is and what it does. We also made our own water cycle using a water vapor maker. Everybody got to touch the vapor and learn how it was made.
In the video on top you can see us talking about water vapor.Water vapor is the gas version of water.
In the bottom left we are trying to show how the water cycle works with steam. Steam and vapor are kind of the same, but aren't the same thing.
Steam is a gas. It is hot and happens when water particles escape from boiling water. When it cools it will condense into water drops again. That's why the top of stove or coffee make sometimes has water drops on it, because steam escaped but got cool again.
Vapor is a gas that is the same temperate as the air. It is particles of water that have "dissolved" into the air. It can condense again too, like on the side of a glass, because water in the air condenses when it gets cooler.
In the botton right video we filled the turtle tank with water vapor and left the heat lamp on. We are giving the turtle a steam bath and also when we opened the door we got to feel the humidity. What we learned from this is that there is water vapor all around us, and when we feel "humid" we are feeling the vapor. Even though most of the time you can't see it.
