Trebuchet

Today, Jackson brought a trebuchet, or a catapult. It has a counterweight (the big box), a throwing arm, and a pouch to launch a small clay ball approximately 20 feet. In this picture, the trebuchet is loaded. In  one of the pictures below, Jackson is loading the trebuchet. It launched halfway across the hallway! Mrs.Sims almost got hit by the soft projectile! SO COOL! (Just in case you were wondering, he bought it at Hobby Lobby.)
The suspense is killing me!

Zombies

Today our class made geometric zombies. We used our geometry templates to make the shapes of the zombies. We used shapes like rectangles and squares and triangles.
Then we put them out in the hallway for everyone to see. They were really fun to make!

Waffle Cake Party

Our class has earned our 1st goal party. For our party we made waffle cakes. What we did was we took regular cake mix and put it in a waffle iron. Everybody participated  in making the waffle cakes. Instead of using sryup, we used chocolate and strawberry sryup. Our class had so much fun.

Flag Economics

Yesterday we started out with paper to make a flag. We had directions on what supplies we needed. For example one team needed a green back ground, 3 red circles,1 blue stripe, and 2 black squares. Only thing was is that we didn't start out with that, so we had to barter with other tables to get the supplies we needed. Once we got all the supplies we needed we glued that supplies on to our background. In the end we made our own flag.

KC Wolf

Today KC Wolf from the Kansas City Cheifs came to our school for an assembly. He played some tricks, did some silly things, and showed us the parts of his costume.

He talked about Red Ribbon week and why it is important to Say No To Drugs.

KC also talked to us about the ABCs of making good choices:
Attitude
Behavior
Character

He reminded us that WE have the power to choose how we live our life. It is important to be positive and proactive.

Red Ribbon Week

Crazy hat day:

Pajama Day:

Explorer Projects

Lately, we've been writing explorer projects. Groups were assigned an explorer. The whole class raced to see who would get to the new world first.

Writing

In writing we've been doing non-fiction articles. We have learned how to take notes, section off our writing, and cut and paste our articles. The topic is Westward Expansion. People are writing about the Gold Rush, the Louisiana Purchase, the Oregon Trail, Lewis and Clark, Sacajawea, and the Corps of Discovery.

Goal Chain Party

This is our class goal chart. We use this to track data on how good we are each day. We've had good and bad days our new goal is to get 80% or more good strips than bad. That's basically it we just wanted to show what's going on thanks,
                                                      Brooke ;)
Our goal chain.

We just got a chain that hangs on the ceiling every time we do something good we get a piece of the chain. The black strips me we didn't do what we were suppose to, the colored strips means we did do what we were suppose to. So at the end of the day we count all the colored strips that earned for walking in line quietly, our line is straight, and are room is clean and chairs are pushed in. Then we count how many black strips we have for not doing those things, after that we subtract the black strips from the colored strips, and those remaining colored strips get put on the chain. We can earn bonus colored strips by: Our whole class turned in homework on time, nobody has to "sign the book', and when the room is clean and everyone is at the floor at the end of the day. We get two colored strips for the bonus. When the chain reaches the floor, we get a party.

So exited for this new quarter. We're ready for our gradecards to come. It's all okay we'll get through this year. Of course we can't forget about the weekend. Forget all the school stress and give us some relaxation. We're ready for fun.
Thanks,
