Our class is collecting donations to give to the troops over seas. Some of these things that we are sending over to the troops include:

* Hard candy (it has to be able to withstand high heat.)
* Snack packs
*  Granola bars and protein bars
* Mio/flavor powders
* Gum/mints
* sports drinks

*games ( cards, dice, etc...)
*Balls and frissbees
* toiletries ( tooth paste, tooth brushes, deodorant, shampoo, and conditioner )
* beauty products ( hair ties, bobby pins, bun wraps, and hair spray )
* pens/ stationary
* Hand sanitizer
* first aid / band aids

We think that these things will make the troops feel more at home, and that people still love and care about them!

Moth in Action

(Above Photos by Jackson L.)

Today Mrs.Sims class released a beautiful moth called Polyphemus! Before we released it had to go through a cycle called metamorphasis. The Polyphemus moth spends most of its life as a caterpillar! A cocoon is like a dressing room for the moth, about a month later, it turned into this beautiful moth like we thought it would. First we kept it in a big butterfly inclosure for a day so it would get used to its new body. The next day, (today) we let it go in our school garden with gorgeous flowers. We had a little trouble getting it out of its inclosure, but it finally let Mrs.Sims pick it up, it then fluttered on a flower and looked comfortable. Mrs.Sims class went inside and started learning again.  8)

Polyphemus Moth Hatched!!!

So, today our Polyphemus moth hatched! It is gigantic! Mrs.Sims walked in to class and saw that it hatched, so she called David over and because they only live for 2 to 4 days, they decided to let it go. They brought it outside and it sat limp on Mrs.Sims hand. They thought it was dead, but they decided to keep it so the class could see. But when Mrs.Sims came in this morning, it was fluttering around in the cage! And we noticed eggs in the cage! We are going to let it go today if the weather clears up.
When Mrs.Sims came in this morning

Look at those eyespots!

Vicky's Snacks

The last couple weeks mrs sims bought cockroaches and I hunter have been feeding Vicky them and she loves them like candy.

Ball Experiment

Yesterday we did a ball bouncing experiment where we dropped different balls from 100 cm and measured the height they bounced. It was so we could learn the scientific method, which is: question, hypothesis, experiment, conclusion. So we taped three pieces of paper together, then set up a meter stick, and then dropped four different types of balls from 100 cm and recorded how high they bounced. We had a lot of fun doing it!

On Thursday March 27th
Mrs. Fredrich chose a couple of fifth grade students to go to the mid-continent library for their Ribbon cutting ceremony. Each student that participated was instructed to share a speech about how they use the library. Each student wrote a incredible speech. The students in our class that participated, Brooke and Anna, explained that they had a blast partisipating in the ceremony.

Coconut Fail

Today. Mrs.Sims class cracked open a fresh Coconut. At least we thought it was fresh! We were going to get to taste it.

Mrs.Sims tried to crack open the coconut with a screwdriver which kind of worked, then we slammed a Rock into it then had a small crack on it so we came up with a idea to throw the Coconut on the floor, But not too hard that it would spill so we gave it a shot and it split but for some reason it didn't spill.

We soon pryed the Coconut opened and BAM, there was mold inside of it. If you look at the picture under you can see what it looked like!  It was green, black, and a little blue! When we peeked inside it was foggy, yes foggy.

So we did not get to try any coconut today. :( Well, it is April Fools Day!

Fingerprint Lab

Yesterday in Mrs. sims class we did a expeirement to see what kind of fingerprints we have. We needed 2 sticky notes, a piece of tape, a pencil and a microscope. First we shaded are pencil on a sticky note then rubbed are finger on the sticky note, after that we pressed are finger on the piece of tape then put the tape on the next sticky note to see what kind of finger print we have. The fingerprints are Loop, Arch and a Whorl.

This is Jayden Y and he is looking at his finger to see wich one his fingerprint is.

These are the fingerprints.

This is one of the things we had to do to complete the expeirement.

This is final bar graph that we did to see what had the most fingerprints loop had the most. Loop had 11, Arch had 6, and whorl had whorl.
