Organizing Data

Today we started unit 6 in math. We will be learning about data collecting and organizing. Today as a class we reviewed the landmark numbers: Min., Max., Mean, Median, Mode, Range.
NOTES COURTESY OF LOUIS

NOTES COURTESY OF HALEY

We then used maps to circle all the states each of us have visited in the past. We used those numbers to make a line plot on the board that displayed the information.

We learned that people use charts and graphs because it makes information easier to read and find than it would be if it was just listed out.

Here is our line plot:

OUR CLASS LANDMARKS WOULD BE:
MIN- 1
MAX- 18
RANGE- 17
MEDIAN- 7
MODE- 4
MEAN- 7.85

Martin Luther king day

Today we talked about Martin Luther King Day we wrote on a pieces of paper about are thoughts. We wrote why Dr. King did what he did and if it was right. It was amazing what he did if he didnt do that I wouldn't be here. Dr. King gave over 2,500 speeches and was assassinated Memphis Tennessee.

Plant experiment

In class we are working on a seed experiment.  We put the seeds in different directions and seeing which one will grow.  Right now we have a sprout! We are excited who's is going to grow first! But the important thing is that we are finding out what seed is going to sprout.:)

Roger we have a sprout! The most grown so far Is Sierra's group! Look at that thing go! So we are having a lot of fun watching them grow it's like us growing up but a plant do you get it?
This is Paige's Group they are working on theirs! So is Jackson's group. oh and Haley's group.:)

Well come back and check out what happens to our seeds.

I almost forgot Trent's group! It's a racing down its self?!

Plant Scavenger Hunt

To start Chapter 4 in science (on plants) our class did a scaventure hunt in science. We had to find a paper that said something about plants. We had to find 18 of them. Mrs.sims said the first five people get gum balls.

Recording a card!

The first person was Jackson, second person was Brynn, third was Anna, fourth was Paige, and last but certainly not least was David. We all got two gum balls.

But in the end we all finished our papers, so it was all good.  I mean, you've got to give some credit to Mrs. Sims for picking the really hard places to hide the cards!

Pencil Contest

Yesterday we started a pencil keeping contest. Mrs. Sims gave us all a pencil with a piece of tape with our name on it. At the end of the day we all have to show it to her and if she can’t see our name or we lost the pencil we lose.

The person who has it the most time without losing it wins 10 dollars. Mrs. Sims could have took the money and bought pencils for us or she could teach us how to be responsible by saving the pencil. Nobody has lost their pencil yet. Everybody wants to win.

Our behavior strips

Coming back from break Mrs. Sims has decided to get rid of the tallie system and begin with something new. She has put in class behavior strips with pouches on the " Cabient Of Wonder".        On the other side of the cabinet there are 5 different color pouches for what you are signing for. Instead of marking for every time you don't follow directions, you will put a colored strip in your pouch for every time you do one of these following things.

The 1st pouch is Considerate. Consideration is being considerate of another's feelings. For example, if someone asked you if they could sit by you at lunch you shouldn't say ," No I don't want you to sit by me". You could simply say," no", very politely. If you are not being considerate you will put a colored strip in your pouch.Another pouch is the  Respectful pouch. Being respectful is like not talking to someone while someone else is speaking . Then of you are being disrespectful you will put a strip in. The 3rd pouch is Responsible. Responsible means to be in charge of what is yours. For example, you have to keep track of your planner. Another pouch Is the Following Directions pouch. I think we all know what following directions are. And if you don't you will put a strip in your pouch. Finally there Is the body basics pouch. This means to keep your hands and legs to yourself  and not to touch other things. If you are not showing body basics you will put a strip in your pouch. At the end of every day, we will count how many of each strip we got and keep track of that. In the end ( the end of the week) if you don't have that many strips we will have a super citizen party. Just a few minutes to do whatever you want. I think that this will be a great expirence for us and will be a lot of fun.
