Mrs. Hight will be our substitute teacher if Mrs. Sims has her baby earlier than she is expects! We have seen her many times befor she has subbed because Mrs. Sims has had baby appointments she has subbed two or three times! We all enjoy her subbing for us. We all believe that she enjoys subbing for us!

She is a awesome sub because she always follows Mrs. Sims rules on the paper she writes! She is so nice, she always is! She is very good at understanding the instructions gifted by Mrs. Sims.  If Mrs.Sims has her baby early we are looking forward to having her!!!

Thanksgiving Turkey Bulletin Board

Here at Sni-A-Bar the teachers decided that we could make feathers for a turkey for Thanksgiving.Next we got all our supplies and went over to Mrs.Liddles classroom and Mrs.Sims told us to pair up.Then we picked our partners to share a desk with them.After that we colored our wings.Later in the school year we are going to put them on a turkey.

Thanksgiving break starts on November 25,2015 and ends on November 27,2015 we get two days of break to prey or meet with family or friends.Happy Thanksgiving!!

Blue River Watershed

Blue River Watershed

On November 2nd, 2015 people from Blue River Watershed came in and taught fifth grade about the blue river. When one of the people came in she had a mini plastic display of a town except with 2 houses, the building that takes out all of the gross stuff out of the water,and the last building was the building that cleans and purifies the water so we can drink water, take a bath or shower, and wash dishes with clean water. As she was teaching she taught us what rain does to the ground if you use too much fertilizer or if you don't clean up their dog’s poop. She used kool-aid and hot chocolate to represent the feces, urine and dirt. On November 4th she came back and we got to use chemicals and test tubes. So far we have had a lot of fun when she comes in and we hope we keep having fun as she comes in until November 6th then it will be the last day. :(

On November Twenty fourth our morning will be really busy. First, at 7:45 am we will have Morning´s with Mom. We will have doughnuts, chocolate milk, and other morning beverage´s. Unfortunately we have to go back to the classroom, but parents are welcome to go with us.

                                                                     Then 5th grade will have their D.A.R.E graduation!

It will start at 9:40 am. Parent´s are also welcome to come to that. It will include…

Royal Blue Snow Day

Royals Snow Day

On the date of November 2nd Mrs Sims had to leave at a half day for a baby appointment. So we had a sub the rest of the day. Well, the Royals had just won the world series and on the 3rd there was the parade for the Royals. 

If on the 3rd we would of had school the attendance would be terrible. So, when we had the sub on the 2nd Miss Liddle came in and told us to "not freak out but school is canceled due to the royals parade the attendance would be bad." 

When she said "don't freak out", EVERYBODY thought Miss Liddle was going to say that Mrs. Sims was in labor. But she didn't have the baby, she is still pregnant.

11 out of 21 kids from our class went to the parade. That is over 50% of our class. It is a good thing we didn't have school.

Book Club Projects

Book Clubs! We had book clubs a couple weeks ago we all read books that the teacher   assigned us. Some people Read 1 book or 2 books. And we made posters which were video taped and you can watch them on the blog and we read them just in a couple and we all had kinds of ideas for the posters like one group made a message in a bottle and another group made a toilet theme because there book was about a boy in the girls bathroom. And at the beginning of reading we would meet with are groups and we could only read to a certain part that the group decided on. some people got to 2 books some only got to 1 and some
never finished their book.

First of all, people may think they don’t do well in school but if they go to their parent teacher conference their teacher talks about how good they are doing. some teachers only want to talk to the parents so some students get to come and some do not get to come.     Teachers say how you have improved and things that you will want to work on to get better at that subject like reading and math and the other subjects.

This past few weeks our class had a Halloween party, we did a lot of cool games and activities. We went in the gym and did a game where you put a stuffed pumpkin put it on your head and walk on a line and if u drop it then u have to go back to your line and try again and we had to race the boys and of course the girls won the next game we did was got a fake bat and we had to throw it up and clap three times and catch it if we didn't catch it then we have to go back and try again my team won. Then when we were done  we went to the classroom, all of us took a leafs that Kaden got for all of us, Then, we put it under our papers, and took a crown and colored over it,  and we  made little faces with the leafs then we took little goggle eyes and made mouths Holly gave all of us candy bags and when we were done with our party we went out to recess and had a good time.

Revolution VS Rotation Jigsaws

Today we were going to teach our class  while they were also teaching us we each got a partner who had the same planet but the rest of the class all had different 

                     We got into two circles .we roatated left every 5 minnets we each told each other about our planet so we each learned a lot more than what we did when we enters our circles

            So there for we may not be the math geniuses of the planets but we problem made it for the little geniouse of the school.

Dictionary Skills Game/Video

Gravity & Density Egg Experiment

Last week we did an science experiment  that is called 

 Egg Float,it was really cool because we had an egg, a rock,

some salt, and water.We followed the dirctions to tell us what to do. 

First we put  waer in both of the cups. Next we put the eggs and the rocks in the cups of water 

and we had to do it very carefully so the egg would't crack and the dirctions say we have to be

carefully so the experiment can work.Then we put the rock in and they both sank to the bottom the first time. Then we relized that we didn't add enough salt and water to the cup with the egg in it, so we added more water and salt and stired it  until the salt disolved then the egg slowly floated to the top.After thart, everyone was so happy because they got it we were even racing each other to see who got it nto the top first!

Garden Fun

This year we desided yo help the garden with all 

those unwanted weeds. We may have accidentily 

pulled out some flowers but only the ones that looked like weeds.

then we went to the side of the school and picked up all the leeves.

We were going to help Mrs.Liddles class in the back garden but we had to go inside.

                                 But in the end I would say it looks pretty good and mabe next year we can plant 

some flowers instead of pull them

Leadership notebooks

On August 19,2015 Mrs.Sims 5th grade class,started our Leadership note books.

We put Data tracking in it for Social Studies, Science, and Math. 

    

Also, we put Goals for what we want to work on more, and practice. We also have a celebration tab, the celebration tab is for tests that we got a 100% on a test. My Contributions are jobs like police 

Officer, help mediate helping students that are having trouble finding a Win-Win. 

Videographer takes photographs of student during speacial activities such as field trips and assemblies, Class parties, and more. My self tab it's all about yourself like art project and more. Last we moved all of our 4th grade stuff so we Can out our 5th grade stuff in our Leadership note books

Labor Day

Labor Day Weekend-NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY
     
            YES! We have our first break from school. On Monday September 7 we have our first break of the school  year. We have a break due to Labor day weekend.
            Labor day weekend is a holiday we celebrate. Some people use this holiday to do activities and fun stuff.
            Labor day is a creation of the labor movement. It is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of american workers.

Our ticket system on Friday

In our class we have tickets it is like the real deal but fake.We get them for doing good things and on Friday we get to spend them on cool stuff like candy and backpacks.We can save them up and get even more cool stuff.I think that is just about it. Or not.Another  thing is that when there is a lot of something the prices change.You half to count the tickets in front of the teacher and you half to count how many tickets you have.You can also put your name on a ticket and put it in a jar and the teacher will some times pull from it.one more you can earn tickets by is turning in books and magazines and by also doing Xtra math and sometimes if you stand in line quietly.

     Hey guys since the very first day of school we have been doing Xtramath. Xtramath is a website were you do Multiplication,Addition,Division,and Subtraction. Xtramath is really fun also there's a Teacher named Mr.C and you have to race the father you get the quicker he answers so you best know your math facts.=)

Visit From Mrs. Manz

 Mrs. Manz came to visit our class. She was very nice. We talked about different ways to plan a story. She showed us a few ways to plan it. One way was to make a list of injuries. Another way was to draw a map of what were writing about.

  After showing us different ways to plan a story. We went to our desk and planned, I did a plan of a story. When we were done we talked about what type of list we made with Mrs. Manz.

     Today we did an amazing/fun "lab"to teach us about force, motion, Gravity, and friction. It was pretty cool. I think this is cool because we learned about it and got to have fun.

•     first we taped 2 yard sticks together.
•     then we piled our books and put a yard on them like a ramp.
•     next we put the car on the ramp.
•     after we watched the car roll down the ramp. It took 3 times per book.
•     we measured how far the car went of the ramp in centameters.

               After that we got our average we did _ +_+_/ 3=_. It showed us a car will move down a ramp if you give it force. Then gravity will make it go down to the floor. After that friction will make it stop because the wheels are rubbing against the carpet.

This was a fun way Mrs. Sims let us learn about force, motion, gravity, and friction we learned a whole lot! (;

DARE

D.a.r.e 

  We have had are first lesson of dare, officer Chance is going to tell us everything we need to know about drugs! We know that some drugs are good but if you overdose it's just as bad as a bad one.

Officer Chance will tell us why we should not do drugs. Also we will know what drugs will do to us.

     We think that this will not just be educational, this will be fun!!! This is why we think we will enjoy D.A.R.E!

COOKIE DOUGH Fundraiser - Due this Friday!

   One day at 2:00 we had a asembily  about cookie dough.After we got there we had to wait a minute.Once it started the guy was talking about the different types of cookies.Some of the cookies were choclate chip , M&M , and peanut butter and lots of other kinds. After that he told us about all the different types of cookie he told us about the prizes we could win.Some of the prizes were toys,electrics,and all sorts of other cool things you could win.After the assembely we finish are day.

Pretty perfect book box covers

This year we decided our book boxes were getting old so we wanted to touch them up a bit. Some were ripped some were wrinkled and it may have took us 1or 2 times but we made it work and they all look perfect.

This year we were going to touch up our 10 year old book boxes. We desided it would be cool to take our picture and make it look like we were leaning, upsided down on our side, and just looking plane adorable.

By problem I mean triying to laminate it with out ruining it. It wasn't mrs. sims fault but some how I, Bradon,and Nate were accidentally messed up.  It's okay now that we re made them they looked better than last time. Mrs.Sims proble saiid she was sorry 5differant times and that made up for it all.Mrs.Sims had thought she had broken the laminator but it was all a big mistake, it turned out someone was trying to "help" but they fixed it and everything is fine.

It may of took a while/couple days to decorate and all the glue marks and stickers stuck in our hair it was all worth it.

Books For Tickets

This week Mrs.Sims told us that we could trade 1 book in for 5 tickets each. So we brought a lot of magazines and books in from home. Nathan brought in 14 books and got 70 tickets!! Unfortunatly some of us didnt bring in any books.

But this is not required it is just a very good way to earn alot of class money to spend on every friday.

Science supplys that our class needs

Mrs Sims class needs every thing for science . Mrs Sims is a science nerd she is coocoo for science supplies. All we need is a 3 ft by 6 in wooden board ( 1 in. wide ), also a long by 3 or 4 in wide ( 1 in.thick ) piece of wood cut into a wedge on one end like the pic below.

We also need screw drivers (+&-),and a spool,and 10 clear plastic 12 ounce cups,and 1 cup of table salt. Sooo much stuff .She really is coocoo for science stuff. 5 uncooked eggs ,also 5 sheets of 12*12 of different types of paper . Wooden block ( something large enough  for us kids to use a screw driver to put screws into it,) sand paper.

we will also need to borrow 2 power drills with battery pack during the week of 9/15-9/18,that is all Mrs Sims is coocoo for science supplies.

Thank you Avree, Allison, Nate, Holly, Jazzy, Isaac, Conner, Spencer, Leighton, Liam, and Danni for all those things that you gave Mrs Sims class.

Reading and Writing Spots

Baby Rabbit

Here is the bunny.

Hi my name is Avree, and yesterday I found a bunny in a dogs mouth.

So when I found the bunny I took it to my teacher Mrs.Sims

cause she loves animals! And I think she would take good care of the 

bunny, so I told her that a dog was trying to chew on the bunnys foot.

so when the class went to specials Mrs.Sims took a look at it. Mrs.Sims

 said that the stomach was messed up and that the foot was broken

and that he might die so we took care of it for the day we kept 

checking on hm to see if was ok. When it was the end of the day

Mrs.Sims said she would take her home and keep her until she is better.

Today Mrs.Sims told us that the buuny was better and that she let her go 

behind her house.

Every Day Math Online

  On the second week of school Mrs. Sims class learned how to get on our Everyday Math logins to play games and learn how to play with a deck of cards, roll dice,flip a coin,play with geoboards anything (that has to do with math) all on the laptops!

  When we were learning how to use the website  Mrs. Sims told us that we could get our homework off of there if we were sick or out of town. Mrs. Sims also showed us that we can play math game with a partner or by yourself.

Harry Potter comes to life

Our class pet Aragog the tarantula named from Harry Potter:The Chamber of Secerets has come back to class.She is a rose hair tarantula and is the only pet in the class because Mrs.Sims is having a baby.If you shine a black light on her it will seem as if she is glowing pink.she is in our class library and is the only permanant class pet in here but most of Mrs.Sims old pets  pets will be visiting.

Fingerprint Science

Fingerprint Science!

   

       Today in class we were working on lifting our fingerprints

The materials we used were 2 post it notes a pencil and a 

piece of clear tape. We had so much fun. The first thing

you do is take your pencil make a big bloch of lead on the

post it note. Then you rub your finger print all over the post it 

note. Now you should have a shiny metallic finger. Next you

take a clear piece of tape put your fingerprint on the tape.

Now take off the tape from your finger then you have to put

the tape on the clean post it note. Enjoy!

Bird feaders

Today we hung up bird feeders on the outside of are window. Where hoping to see a bird or two before the end of the week. We took a five minute break from reading to hang up the bird feeders.  When ever we where filling up the bird feeders we saw a frog we tried to catch it but it went in the ground. One of the bird feeders wasn't working so we didn't hang it up. After that we took a picture of us by the bird feeder. We had to have the janitor fix it so we took it to the janitor she fixed it but we had to wait to hang it up,because it was are lunch time. We took a braek from writing to hang up the other bird feeder. Once it was hung up we took another picture. We had fun hanging up the bird feeders.
